|SIDE for alumni|
SIDE (the South Island Dairy Event) has seven stated objectives, among them is continuing as the most effective and popular forum in South Island dairying.
Judging by the attendance and ‘buzz’ for learning and sharing knowledge evident at the latest SIDE, held at Stadium Southland, Invercargill, over 23 – 25 July, this objectives was well met.
SIDE is a partnership involving Lincoln University, DairyNZ and South Island Dairy Farmers.
Dr Racheal Bryant, Lecturer in Animal Science and Professor of Dairy Production Grant Edwards, both of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, are the Lincoln University representatives on the SIDE 2014 Committee. Both are Lincoln University alumni and Dr Bryant was among the workshop presenters with a session on the use of gibberellic acid, a growth hormone, in relation to pasture covers such as perennial ryegrass.
Lincoln University Senior Lecturer Dr Jim Gibbs of the Department of Agricultural Sciences also gave a session, on Fodder Beet in the New Zealand Dairy Industry.
Lincoln University Alumni and Development Officer Anisha Thomas represented the Alumni and Development Office at SIDE and was delighted to meet alumni working in many of the organisations contributing to the event.
“In addition to its stated objectives, SIDE is a great networking opportunity for Lincoln University alumni,” she says.
