Alumni feature in General Election results

Congratulations to the following Lincoln alumni who achieved success in the 2014 General Election, held on 20 September. Returned to Parliament are electorate MPs:

  • Maggie Barry, National, North Shore;
  • David Shearer, Labour, Mount Albert;
  • Lindsay Tisch, National, Waikato.

All increased their majorities significantly. Maggie Barry is a DipHort alumna from 1979. David Shearer holds an MSc(Hons) in Resource Management, 1986. Lindsay Tisch, who in the last Parliament was Assistant Speaker, holds a DipAg, 1970.

Also returning to the new Parliament after the General Election are alumni and List MPs:

  • Hon. David Carter, Number 2 on National’s List. David (BAgSci 1974) was Speaker of the House in the last Parliament.
  • David Clendon, Number 11 on the Green Party List. David is an MSc (Hons) in Resource Management graduate, 1995.

If any readers know of other Lincoln University alumni who have entered or returned to Parliament after this year’s general Election, the Alumni and Development Office would welcome notification.

Although not a Lincoln alumna, the Hon. Amy Adams, the sitting National MP for Selwyn - the Electorate in which Lincoln University is located - was returned to Parliament with the distinction of achieving the largest Election night majority in the country, 18,665.
