Wellington event strikes note with young alumni

Alumni gatherings returned to the capital city on 24 November with the first after-work social get-together for Wellington alumni in recent years. Close to 30 alumni attended, spanning several generations of graduates. The event was held in George’s Room at the Thistle Inn, Thorndon, from 5.00 – 7.00pm.

Alumni and Development Officer Penny Curran hosted the event and said it was encouraging to see a good cross-section of alumni attending including recent graduates.

Among the younger graduates present were Genevieve Grant and Adam Caldwell.

Chancellor Tom Lambie was the guest speaker and after welcoming everyone he gave an update on the University. Also on the speaking list was Dr James Buwalda, a former Director of the Lincoln University based Bio-Protection Research Centre, who spoke on how his Lincoln education contributed to his career. He also focused on the importance of bio-security to the New Zealand economy.
