Parents Weekend

We are pleased to confirm the programme for the Parents Weekend on 16 & 17 September at Lincoln University.

This is a great opportunity for current students to share with their parents/grandparents, or a special person in their lives, what they have been up to while studying at Lincoln University, as well as enjoying a memorable weekend together.

This event is an initiative of some current students (Future Leader Scholars), and any surplus funds will be donated to their chosen charity.


Saturday 16 September 2017

  • 11:30am - Netball, Lincoln University v Massey Netball

LU Sports Hall

  • 1.00pm - Lincoln University Dairy Farm Tour 

    Tour Guide: Keith Cameron, Professor of Soil Science

    Meet at the SIDDC Demonstration Farm located at Ellesmere Junction Road and Shands Road, Lincoln (own transport)

  • 2:45pm - Rugby, annual match - Lincoln University AgXVs v Massey University AgXVs

    LU Rugby Fields, Calder Drive, Lincoln University

  • 5.00pm - Pre-dinner drinks at Mrs O's including a welcome by LUSA President, Danyon Thomas

  • 6.00pm- 'Fathers & Sons Dinner'* at Te Kete Ika (Dining Hall), Lincoln University

This is an opportunity for sons to enjoy a buffet dinner with their father/grandfather (or a special person they would like to bring). Dress Code: Smart Casual

Guest Speaker: Don McCaw (DipAg 1973) - Son and grandson of Lincoln University alumni, Jim McCaw and Alexander McCaw, and father of two Lincoln University alumni, Richie and Jo.

Don McCaw will share with you some of the history of the McCaws at Lincoln University including stories of his time as a Lincoln student, and some McCaw family stories about raising Richie and Jo on the farm in the Hakataramea Valley with wife Margaret. Don will 
reflect on how he was influenced by his own father in his life, study and career, and how he and Margaret also encouraged their children with their study, careers and sporting pursuits.

  • 8.30am – 10.30am – 'Mothers & Daughters Breakfast'*at Te Kete Ika (Dining Hall), Lincoln University

    his is an opportunity for daughters and mothers (or a special person they would like to bring) to enjoy a buffet dinner with a guest speaker.

    Guest Speaker:  Sarah Speight (nee Gooch), (BAgrSc 1993 & Kellogg Rural Leadership Course 1997)

    Sarah's extensive career in rural/agricultural activities has included farming, working with DairyNZ to senior  level, leading the Dairy Women’s Network, and designing and managing aid projects overseas focussed on dairy development. Along the way Sarah met and married Mark and they have two great daughters. Despite a few  bumps on life’s journey, Sarah says it’s all been very interesting!


  • 10.30am - 11:30am - Lincoln University Campus Tour

Join Future Leader Scholars on a tour of the Lincoln University campus. Available to all students and their parents/grandparents, or special person.

Meet in front of Ivey Hall (Library).

*students may wish to bring a special person in their lives - it does not have to be a parent/grandparent.


Cost for Dinner or Breakfast

  • 'Fathers & Sons Dinner' on Saturday 16 September is $60 per person
  • Includes 2 course buffet menu and cash bar is available.
  • 'Mothers & Daughters Breakfast' on Sunday 17 September is $25 per person
  • Includes buffet breakfast & glass of bubbles or juice.

All other events are free (except for accommodation)


Lincoln University - Halls of Residence
Accommodation is available in the Halls of Residence at $55 per person per night inclusive GST. Rooms sleep one person. Please indicate when registering if you would like to include this option.  As this is during term time, there is only 16 beds available so it will be on a 'first in, first served basis'.

We have also had enquiry as to provision for campervans on campus, of which there is an allocated space near the Halls. Please let us know if you would like this option.
